EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 26, 2024) – Looking for a second straight victory and to pull even in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse hosts VMI Wednesday.
MOUNT UPDATE
By an 8-7 final, the Mount picked up their first win of the season over the Wagner Seahawks.
Brody Atkinson played a role in half of the team's scoring, finishing with a hat trick and an assist. This past Monday he received MAAC Rookie of the Week honors for the third time this year.
Owen Peters finished the game with 11 saves, and three players –
Mitchell Dunham,
Caden Cote, and
Ben Ward – had two caused turnovers each.
Atkinson is the Mount's leader in points with 26, followed by
Cormac Giblin who was also a multi-goal scorer in the Wagner game.
Kevin Whitty and
Will McKay have earned more than 10 points for the Mountaineers as well. Dunham leads in ground balls and caused turnovers, and
Jackson Phillips has 16 CT's for the season.
SCOUTING THE KEYDETS
VMI possess a strong non-conference record, but are still looking for their first MAAC win, falling to LIU, Siena, and Sacred Heart. Luke Rusterucci leads an offense with 115 goals to their name, scoring 46 points on 24 goals and 22 assists. Charles Hunt, Wil Duffy, and Austin English are double digit goal scorers as well. James Boynewicz has 21 caused turnovers and Luke McDonald has 25 ground balls to lead the defense. Adam Norris is the primary goalie with 99 saves.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Mountaineers have the decided upper hand in the series, winning 25 of the previous 28 meetings. This series dates to 1991, and the teams have met almost every year since. VMI won their games in 1995, 2005, and 2022.
