EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 25, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse dropped a mid-week game to the Iona Gaels, 15-14, in New Rochelle on Wednesday. Iona scored five times in the final quarter, including the game-winner in the closing seconds to earn the victory.
Brody Atkinson led with five points, earning three assists and two goals.
Kevin Whitty and
Carter Quested both earned hat tricks.
Nicolas Belmonte won 17 of 29 faceoffs, and
Bennett Wright tallied 12 saves.
With the result, the Mount falls to 1-8 and 0-4 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
HOW THE GAME UNFOLDED
- Mount St. Mary's took momentum early by scoring the first three goals. Quested, Belmonte, and Chris Grimaldi provided the scoring.
- The Mount maintained the advantage going into the second quarter, with Whitty finding the back of the net twice for a 6-3 score.
- Iona rallied at halftime, outflanking the Mountaineers 4-1 in the second to earn a 7-7 tie.
- A late 4-1 run by the Mount in the third put the visitors ahead 12-10 entering the final frame.
- Down 14-11, Iona scored the final four goals over the last 6:35 of the game, with Carson Turissini earning the winner.
