Mount St. Mary's Heads to Niagara for Final Road Game of Regular Season

MOUNT STORY LINES
  • Mount St. Mary's fell at Canisius, 61-56, in a close-knit affair on Friday night.  Dakota Leffew led the Mount with 17 points while Joshua Reaves added 11 in the loss.  The Mount trailed 48-42 with just under 12 minutes left before going on a 9-0 run to take the lead.  The Mount led 54-51 before Canisius scored the next six for a 57-54 advantage.  Trailing 59-56, the Mount had four three-point shots on the same possession with just over a minute left to tie the score, but all four were off the mark.  Trailing 59-56, the Mount had one last chance to tie the score, but a Leffew had a three from the left corner with nine seconds left fall short.
  • Niagara defeated the Mount, 82-71, on January 21 at Knott Arena to take a 4-1 lead in the all-time series.  The Purple Eagles are 2-1 against the Mount since the Mountaineers moved to the MAAC last season.  The Mount is 0-2 all-time against Niagara at the Gallagher Center.
  • De'Shayne Montgomery was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week on Monday.  Montgomery has won the award the past two weeks, and four times this season.  He averaged 23.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists while shooting 59.3 percent from the field in two games last week.
  • George Tinsley had a team-high eight rebounds, including four on the offensive glass, in the Mount's loss at Canisius on Friday.  Tinsley leads the Mountaineers with 49 offensive boards this season.   In his career of 136 games, Tinsley has grabbed five or more rebounds on 88 occasions, including 15 this year.  He now has 752 career boards in his five seasons (three at Binghamton and two at the Mount).
  • Joshua Reaves has scored in double figures in each of the past four games, and six of the Mount's past seven.  The senior guard is averaging 14.4 points over that span, connecting on 20-of-42 (.476) three-point attempts.  He is shooting 36.1 percent (56-of-155) from beyond the arc this season.
  • Up next, the Mount closes out the 2023-24 regular season by hosting Fairfield at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, at Knott Arena.
