Washington, D.C. (November 20, 2024)—Terrell Ard Jr. and
Dola Adebayo each scored in double figures, but Mount St. Mary's was stopped at Georgetown, 79-51, on Wednesday night at Capital One Arena. The Mount falls to 3-2 on the year.
Georgetown's defense proved to be the difference as the Mount shot just 31.3 percent from the floor in the game. The Mountaineers were just 5-of-19 (.263) from three-point range in the contest.
Ard Jr. finished with a team-high 12 points while adding six rebounds and four assists with Adebayo adding 10 points and six boards in the loss. Leading scorer
Dallas Hobbs finished with eight points and seven rebounds.
Jayden Epps led four Georgetown players in double figures with 19 points. Thomas Sorber added 14 points and 12 rebounds while Micah Peavy had 12 and Malik Mack 10.
Georgetown (3-1) used a strong start to the game to build a 25-9 lead in the opening nine minutes. The Hoyas hit four of their first five three-pointers to spark the run. The Mount defense then kicked in, holding Georgetown scoreless for seven minutes, cutting the deficit in half over that span. Adebayo's dunk on a feed from Ard Jr. made it 25-17 with five minutes left in the opening half. Georgetown responded by closing the half with a 10-to-5 run for a 35-22 lead at the break.
The Hoyas opened the second half with a 10-to-3 run to build a 20-point advantage. From there, the Hoyas were able to maintain the advantage for the victory.
