Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (November 23, 2024)—Buoyed by four double-figure scorers, Mount St. Mary's improved to 4-2 on the season with a 76-66 win over Delaware State at Knott Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Mount win gives the Mount its best start to a season since the 1995-96 season.
It was a balanced attack for the Mountaineers as four players scored in double figures, led by
Dola Adebayo, who tied his career high with 16 points .
Terrell Ard Jr.,
Jedy Cordilia and
Carmelo Pacheco each added 14 in the victory.
Dallas Hobbs chipped in seven points while matching his career high of eight assists. Adebayo and Cordilia each grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Martaz Robinson and Kaseem Watson each scored 16 for Delaware State (2-4) in the game.
Mount St. Mary's used an early 11-to-2 run to grab an eight-point lead in the first half. Trailing 8-7, Ard Jr. converted a traditional three-point play to start the run with Adebayo converting a traditional three-point play of his own to cap it for an 18-10 advantage. Delaware State fought back to even the score at 22-22, but the Mount was able to close the half with a 9-to-3 run to take a 38-31 lead at the break.
A Hobbs three-pointer early in the second half gave the Mount a double-digit lead at 45-35, but the Hornets chipped away at the deficit, securing a one-point advantage, 50-49, with 11:41 remaining. That lead was short-lived as Ard Jr. responded with another three-point play on the ensuing possession to put the Mount back on top.
Leading 61-60 with just under six minutes left, the Mount had the decisive run scoring 11 unanswered points to grab a 72-60 advantage.
Javon Ervin opened the run with a bucket in the paint, and Ard Jr. slammed home a feed from Hobbs after a Hornet turnover to make it a five-point game.
Jedy Cordilia added a basket, and a Pacheco three-pointer pushed the lead back to double figures.
Xavier Lipscomb's drive capped the run with 2:21 left.
Mount St. Mary's shot 53.6 percent from the field in the second half to finish the game 27-of-57 (.474) from the field. The Mount also hit 8-of-20 (.400) from three-point range while adding 14-of-18 (.778) at the foul line.

- The Mount's 4-2 start to the season is the team's best since the 1995-96 squad also opened with a 4-2 mark.
- Mount St. Mary's improved to 3-0 at Knott Arena this season with the victory.
- The Mount's victory evened the all-time series with Delaware State at two wins each.All four games in the series have been won by the home team.
- The win also clinched a winning record for the month of November for the first time since the Mount moved to NCAA Division I in 1988-89.
- Ard Jr. has scored in double figures in four consecutive games, averaging 12.8 points over that stretch.
- Adebayo scored 16 points for the third time in his career.He has reached double figures in scoring in five of the Mount's six games this year.
