Mount St. Mary's Rallies to Win Thriller in Double Overtime at Bucknell

Lewisburg, Pa. (November 13, 2024)--Mount St. Mary's rallied from a 15-point second half deficit to win a thriller at Bucknell, 93-89, in double overtime.  Jedy Cordilia tied a career high with 22 points to lead five players in double figures in the win.

Trailing 54-39 five minutes into the second half, the Mount rallied to secure the victory.  It was 63-49 with under nine minutes remaining before Mount (2-1) went on a 22-to-4 run to take a four-point lead.  Xavier Lipscomb hit a three to start the run, and a Cordilia three-point play cut the deficit to 65-58.  After a Bucknell basket, the Mount scored the next 13 points to take the lead.  Cordilia hit a turnaround jumper in the lane to give the Mount a 68-67 advantage with 2:08 left, and Lipscomb hit a triple with 1:21 on the clock to make it 71-67.  Bucknell rallied by scoring the final four points of regulation to force the first overtime.

In the first overtime, the Mount built a 78-72 lead when Dallas Hobbs drilled a three-pointer, but Bucknell again rallied, tying the score on a pair of free throws with six seconds left to force a second overtime session.  In the second overtime, Carmelo Pacheco started the scoring with a three and Terrell Ard Jr. scored in the paint for an 84-79 lead.  Bucknell tied the score at 84-84, but Cordilia scored the next three Mount points on a free throw and a lay-up for an 87-85 advantage.  Hobbs hit 1-of-2 at the line for an 88-85 lead, but a Bucknell hit two free throws with 40 seconds left to make it a one-point game.  Cordilia came through with two more clutch free throws ahead of a Bucknell basket.  The Mount's Lipscomb hit 1-of-2 at the line with 9.3 seconds left, and the Mount got the ball back when Bucknell was called for an illegal screen.  Freshman Abdou Khadre Kebe then sealed the win with two free throws.

Cordilia finished 8-for-10 from the field and 6-of-8 at the line to match his career high of 22 points while also adding eight boards.  Hobbs chipped in 19 points and six rebounds with Ard Jr. finishing with 13 points and six boards.  Lipscomb added a season-high 12 points with Pacheco adding a season-best 10 in the victory.  Bucknell had six players in double figures led by Josh Bascoe's 20.

NOTES
  • The Mount moves to 2-1 on the year for the first time since the 2009-10 season. 
  • The Mount shot 48.5 percent from the field in the win, and hit 10-of-30 from three-point range.
  • Mount St. Mary's committed eight turnovers in the first half, and just eight more the rest of the way.  The Mount came into the game averaging 24.5 turnovers per game over the first two contests.
  • Bucknell now holds a 13-12 lead in the all-time series.
