Mount XC Teams Prep for MAAC Championships

EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 1, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's cross country heads to the Empire State for their third running in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships Saturday.  
 
MOUNT UPDATE: The team competed in a variety of meets during the season, with many of the competitors started their season at the Paul Short Run.  Over the course of the fall, the men's best finish was a team second placement and one runner placing in 6th at the LVC Last Chance Run in October. The women came in fourth at the Mount 5K Duals to open the season for the highest finish as a team.
 
Among the men's top qualifiers were John Ruona, Niels Peeters, and EJ Villaver, who each led the men's team in at least one event. On the women's side, Mary Campbell, Maeve Parrish, Elizabeth Freymann and Laura McConville were the top competitors leading the women's team in at least one event each.
 
LAST YEAR AT THE MAAC CHAMPIONSHIPS: Mount St. Mary's took sixth place in the men's race and ninth in the women's race during the 2023 MAAC Championships. Niels Peeters had the top finish for all Mount runners, coming in 16th place with a time of 25:34.6 in the 8K. Elizabeth Freymann led the women with a 23:33.9 in the 6K.  
 
UP NEXT:  Select individuals who qualify can compete at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on November 15. After that, the track & field program transitions to the indoor season, beginning December 1 with the Bucknell Bison Opener.
 
All-Academic Team Honors: Select members of the team made the All- Academic Team in the Metro Atlantic Conference that was announced at 10 AM today. There was a total of 9 men from the Mount who made the team and 11 women from the Mount. All honorees are listed below.
