EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 6, 2024) – The headlining home tournament for Mount St. Mary's bowling takes place this coming week as some of the nation's best teams travel to Las Vegas for the Stormin' Blue & White Vegas Classic.

FORMAT: Stormin' Blue & White follows a standard bowling tournament format. Monday features Baker total pin fall games with traditional play occurring on Tuesday. Baker bracket play, consisting of three rounds, takes place on Wednesday.

ABOUT THE MOUNT: In the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll, the Mount moved up three spots from the preseason to #15 in the country. During the fall semester the team finished with a record of 23-11, getting a tournament win at Kutztown's Golden Bear Invitational and a runner-up finish at the Brunswick Niagara Open. For the season to date,
Sierra Calo has the best average per frame in Baker play (20.87) and
Alyssa Alexander leads in traditional play (21.25).

Two players and a commit for next season are already in Vegas for USA Team Trials. Alexander makes the trip for a second consecutive season, joined by freshman
Piper Chalmers and incoming freshman Amber Benson. The individual tournament wraps up tomorrow.

THE FIELD: As South Point Hotel boasts one of the best bowling facilities in the nation, this tournament attracts top-level teams from across the country. The 2024 edition features the largest number of teams traveling with 20 schools represented. Three of the top five teams in the NTCA poll - #1 Jacksonville State, #2 Vanderbilt, and #4 Louisiana Tech – are all in the field, which features 13 ranked teams in total. Due to the increased number of opponents, teams were divided into four groups to level the playing field – clubs, hearts, diamonds, and spades.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE: Three more tournaments await the Mount in the month of January. The team will head for the one-day Greater Pittsburgh Collegiate Classic on the 13
th, followed by weekend tournaments at the Northeast Classic in Delaware and the Red Flash Invitational in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
