Mount St. Mary's Looks to Protect Home Court Against Niagara on Sunday Afternoon

MOUNT STORY LINES
  • Mount St. Mary's improved to 3-3 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and 7-10 overall with a 65-48 victory over Marist on Friday night at Knott Arena.  Defense was the key in the victory as the Mount held Marist to 37.5 percent shooting while holding a 39-to-25 edge on the boards.  Dakota Leffew led the Mount with 21 points and five assists with De'Shayne Montgomery also in double figures at 11 points.  The Mount hit 11-of-24 (.440) from three-point range in the game.
  • This will be the fifth all-time meeting between the Mount and Niagara with the Purple Eagles holding a 3-1 edge in the series.  Last year, the teams split the season series with each winning on their home court.  The Mount's 70-66 victory over Niagara on Feb. 17 last season was the Mount's first in the all-time series.
  • Mount St. Mary's improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the MAAC at home this year with the win over Marist on Friday.  The Mount has a scoring margin of +15.3 points at home this year, scoring 77.2 points while allowing just 61.8.  The Mount is shooting 39.7 percent from three-point range at Knott Arena, while holding the opponents to 37.8 percent shooting overall and 22.0 percent from three-point range.
  • Dakota Leffew has scored in double figures in each of the past 16 games for the Mountaineers, hitting the 20-point plateau nine times over that stretch.  Leffew is averaging 20.5 points and 5.0 assists over the past two games.  For the year, he leads the Mount in scoring (17.8), assists (4.1) and three-point field goals (44).  In MAAC play, Leffew is averaging 19.3 points and 4.5 assists while shooting 45.8 percent (22-of-48) from three-point land.
  • Dola Adebayo made his first start of the season for the Mount in the 65-48 victory over Marist.  Adebayo finished the game with five points, three rebounds, three blocks and two steals.  The redshirt sophomore is averaging 6.1 points and 4.2 rebounds this year while leading the team in blocks (18).
  • Up next, the Mount visits Quinnipiac on Thursday, January 25, at 7:30 p.m. before returning home to host Rider for Homecoming on Saturday, January 27, at 5:00 p.m.
