Newark, N.J. (August 17, 2023)—Klil Keshwar made six saves as Mount St. Mary's opened the 2023 season with a scoreless draw at NJIT on Thursday night. It is the second consecutive season the Mountaineers have opened the year with a tie.
The Mount offense was much more prominent over the final 45 minutes, starting with a
Madison Bee header that went just wide in the opening minutes of the second half. Starting in the 65
th minute, the Mount carried play over the next 15 minutes, generating a handful of good scoring chances, but were unable to find the back of the net. NJIT had the final push in the game to earn a corner kick in the 86
th minute. The Mount blocked a pair of shots with the sequence ending with Keshaw scooping up a slow rolling shot to keep the game scoreless.
The final shot total saw NJIT with a 16-to-5 advantage, with a 6-to-1 edge in shots on goal. The Mount held a 5-to-4 margin in corner kicks in the game. Keshwar, a graduate transfer from St. Francis Brooklyn, notched her seventh career clean sheet in her debut for the Mountaineers.
This was the first meeting between the two teams since 2010 and the fourth overall. The Mount leads the series, 1-0-3, with each of the past three matchups finishing in a tie.
