EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 21, 2023) – Two teams with big goals meet on Saturday on the final day of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) season. Mount St. Mary's is looking for their first regular season title since 2006 and an eight game win streak, while Siena at 4-4 in league play will fight to secure their spot in the postseason.

MOUNT UPDATE

Defeating Sacred Heart by a final of 13-12 last Saturday, the Mountaineers upped their streak of success to seven games, the best since the year 2000. An eighth win would be longest for the program since they advanced to Division I in the late 1980s. Nine different players scored in the game, with Jared McMahon, Kelly Gouin, Cormac Giblin and Dan Bradley all registering two goals.

Should the Mountaineers win Saturday, they will clinch the number one seed for the conference championship, with the privilege of hosting the semifinals and finals at Waldron Family Stadium. A loss coupled with a Manhattan win over Wagner relegates the Mount to the second seed, where they will still get a first-round bye.

Connor Beals won the MAAC Faceoff Player of the Week for the third straight time last Monday. The senior ranks ninth nationwide in percentage at .619. Beals won 35 faceoffs out of 56 opportunities in last week's game over Canisius and the Pioneers.

On defense, the Mount ranks ninth in caused turnovers per game. Mitchell Dunham, averaging two per game, ranks eighth in the country.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS

Sitting in a four-way tie for fourth place, Siena enters the contest battling for both a spot and chance to host a first-round game. After dropping two straight the Saints upset Manhattan, vicariously helping the Mountaineers move into first place.

Ryan McCarthy has the most points for the Saints, with 20 assists and 16 goals for a total of 36. Christian Watts has scored 27 times for the highest goal total. Christopher Yanchoris has 143 saves and a percentage above .500.

Siena is seventh in team offense but take the most shots at 44.5 per game. They rank second behind the Mount for caused turnovers.

ALL-TIME SERIES

Going back to 1995, the Mount and Siena matched up 17 times. Saturday is the first meeting since 2010, the last season in the MAAC before this one for the Mountaineers. In the most recent game, Mount broke a three-game slide with a victory in the conference tournament.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Mount St. Mary's will know potential matchups and location for the MAAC Semifinals after the games Saturday.
