MOUNT STORY LINES
- Jalen Benjamin scored 26 points to power Mount St. Mary's to a 70-66 win over Niagara at Knott Arena on Friday night. Benjamin had the game's biggest basket, a turn-around fade-away jumper with 16.5 seconds remaining to give the Mount a four-point lead. George Tinsley added 17 points and seven rebounds in the win.
- Malik Jefferson appeared in his 128th career game against Niagara on Friday night. That moves Jefferson into a five-way tie for second all-time at the Mount in career games played, joining Jeremy Goode (2006-10), Markus Mitchell (2005-09), Taylor Danaher (2012-16) and Will Miller (2013-17). Junior Robinson is the Mount's all-time leader with 131 career games played.
- This will be the first meeting between the two teams in Emmitsburg, Md., in exactly 89 years. The Mountaineers posted a 31-27 home win over the Golden Griffins on Feb. 19, 1934 at Flynn Hall on campus. The Mount is 2-0 all-time against Canisius, including a 64-60 win on January 2nd.
- Deandre Thomas returned to the Mount's lineup against Niagara, finishing with seven points and a pair of assists in 18 minutes of action. Thomas had missed the previous five games with a knee injury. Thomas is averaging 7.3 points on the year, shooting 37.5 percent from three-point range.
- Jalen Benjamin scored 26 points in the win over Niagara, his third 20-point effort over the past four games, and his fourth over the Mount's past six games. Benjamin is averaging 21.8 points and 4.5 rebounds over the past four contests, shooting 47.8 percent from the field an 6-of-15 (.400) from three-point range.
- The Mount has picked it up on the offensive end, scoring 70 or more points in three of the past four contests. The Mount is averaging 71.5 points per game while shooting 46.5 percent overall, 40.0 percent from three-point range and 84.7 percent at the foul line. The Mount had not reached the 70-point plateau the previous 15 contests prior to the four-game span.
