EMMITSBURG, Md. (December 9, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's women's basketball fell to the George Mason Patriots Saturday, 77-30. With the defeat the Mountaineers stand at 3-5 on the season.
Jessica Tomasetti had the most Mount points with seven, and matched
Isabella Hunt with seven rebounds, tying a game high.
Jada Lee added six points playing a career-high 38 minutes, and
Jo Raflo tallied five.
George Mason had five players in double figures, led by Kennedy Harris with 15. Jazymn Doster, Zahirah Walton, and Amy O'Hara also had seven rebounds apiece. The game serving as a homecoming for Patriots coach Vanessa Blair-Lewis, a Mountaineer Hall of Famer and alumnus, who received a warm greeting by the crowd at introductions.
Mason established their presence immediately by scoring 15 of the first 17 points. Only a
Jackie Christ layup was able to buffet the run. The Patriots developed a 28 point advantage by the half, extending it to 33 entering the final period. Tomasetti scored all her points in the fourth, with play opening up as the teams combined for 33 shot attempts in the period.
The final score was the second largest margin of defeat against the Mount in a home game. The highest was 51, which by coincidence was another alumnus homecoming as Agnus Berenato – a member of the class of 1980 – and the Pitt Panthers defeated the Mountaineers 82-31 in November 2007.
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play begins next Saturday, December 16, at Fairfield.
