Swimming and Diving Honors Seniors Saturday in Dual-Home Meet Versus VMI

EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 2nd, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's swim and dive hosts VMI this weekend to compete in an afternoon dual meet at 1 p.m. The Mountaineers will honor their graduating class prior to the start of the meet.
 
MOUNT UPDATE
 
Men and women's swimming and diving last competed against Messiah in what panned out to be a triumphant day from both teams. The men's team was crowned first in every event as they won the meet 208-49, while the women's team won 182-77, the teams combined for 24 total event wins. Per the men's side, John Haskins and Antonio Gurri claimed their first individual wins of the season and Mountaineer career. Haskins claimed first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.86 seconds, while Gurri claimed the 200 IM after posting a time of 2:04.44. Of the woman's side, Maddy Samuels claimed consecutive first place finishes in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events, while also contributing to the women's relay first place finishes.

SCOUTING VMI
 
The Keydets are 0-1 on the men's side posting a loss to Davidson College 79-149, while 0-1 on the women's side posting a loss against Davidson 42-194. The Keydets have a prolific freshman swimmer in Pedro Robertson, Robertson posted a win in the men's 1,000-yard freestyle event in 10:15.71.
 
HISTORY WITH VMI
 
The women's swimming and diving is a perfect 18-0 against the Keydets as the last matchup between the two programs was last season on November 5th, 2022, in a 173-115 away win for the Mountaineers. Per the men's side, the Mountaineers are 1-7 in program history versus the Keydets as the last outing competed on November 5th, 2022, in an away loss, 145-153.
