TEANECK, N.J. (November 22, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's surged at the start and held FDU from any double-digit run thereafter, leading to a 64-50 victory over the Knights heading into Thanksgiving week. The Mountaineers pushed their record back to the .500 mark at 2-2.
Three players registered double figures, led by
Jo Raflo with 18 points. The breakout athlete, however, was redshirt sophomore
Jaedyn Jamison. Making her first career start, she finished a perfect 4-for-4 with a pair of treys for a career-high 10 points.
Jessica Tomasetti added 15 along with six steals, also a career best.
KC Carter was the leader off the bench with nine points, her top mark in a Mount uniform.
The squad won the turnover battle for the first time this season, forcing 24 by the Knights to their 18. At 39.2 percent, the Mount had their best shooting effort and made free throws count with 18 makes over 21 attempts.
Firing out of the gates, the Mount shot 8-for-15 from the floor (53.3 percent), opened a 14-4 and traded runs to a 24-12 lead after the first quarter. Effective shooting at the charity stripe bridged the gap of an almost four minute field goal drought. While the offense cooled off in the second period, the Mount forced another eight turnovers, executing 18 points off giveaways by the half.
Coming out of the break ahead 15 – their largest advantage in any game since December of last year against Pitt-Johnstown – the Mountaineers continued to be relentless on both sides of the ball. The lead hit the 20-point mark on a Carter jumper midway through the third period, and the team limited the Knights to less than 10 points entering the final frame. Points early in the fourth secured the victory and buffeted a late FDU run.
Mount St. Mary's faces UMES next Wednesday (Nov. 29) in Princess Anne, Maryland.
