Alexa Dragisics, Jasmin Sorrell Goals Leads Mount St. Mary's Past Niagara, 2-0

Emmitsburg, Md. (October 4, 2023)--Alexa Dragisics and Jasmin Sorrell each scored to lead Mount St. Mary's to a 2-0 win over Niagara on Wednesday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium.  The Mountaineers have won two in a row to move to 4-6-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings.  The Mount is in a three-way tie for fourth place in the league standings midway through the conference slate.

Mount goalkeeper Klil Keshwar made the first big play in the contest, stopping Niagara's Emma Bough in a one-on-one situation in the 13th minute.  After the save, Bough followed up with a shot off the rebound, but Sorrell came up with a team save to keep the game scoreless.  The Mountaineers got on the scoreboard in the 30th minute on a Dragisics header.  The Mount's Annie Sorando was stopped on a one-on-one by Niagara's Agnes Stenlund with the save pushing the ball towards the corner.  Sorando was able to chase down the rebound, and send a cross to the middle to Dragisics, who headed home the first goal of the game and the second of her career.

Mount St. Mary's stretched the lead to two goals in the 66th minute on a corner kick.  Taylor Carter sent the corner into the box where Sorrell knocked the ball home with her right foot to put the Mountaineers ahead, 2-0.  It was the first collegiate goal for Sorrell, a sophomore defender.  The Mountaineer carried play the rest of the way, generating seven shots over the games final 20 minutes.

Mount St. Mary's finished the game with a 14-to-7 shot advantage and a 4-to-3 edge in corner kicks.  Keshwar made four saves for the Mount to record her third shutout of the year.  Stenlund has seven stops for the Purple Eagles.  The win was the third consecutive home victory for the Mount this season.
