Buffalo, N.Y. (October 14, 2023)--Mount St. Mary's women's soccer saw its three-game win streak snapped in a 1-0 loss at Canisius on Saturday afternoon. Goalkeeper
Klil Keshwar made five saves for the Mount in the game. The Mount falls to 5-7-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the MAAC with the loss.
The opening half ended in a scoreless draw with the Golden Griffins holding a narrow 6-to-4 edge in shots on goal. Keshwar had to make two saves in the opening frame while Canisius goalkeeper Jordan Spencer made one stop.
Canisius (7-2-5, 4-1-2 MAAC) put on the pressure early in the second half, generating four shots in the opening 15 minutes before breaking through on a Lizzy Harkness marker in the 65th minute. The Mount fought back with
Annie Sorando being turned away by Spencer in the 73rd minute. After a pair of Keshwar saves, the Mount's final scoring chance came on a
Nicole Wilson shot in the 83rd minute that was turned away by Spencer. Canisius was able to salt away the victory from there.
The final shot total saw Canisius with a 14-to-6 advantage, including a 6-to-3 edge in shots on target. Canisius held a narrow 5-to-4 advantage in corner kicks in the contest.
Mount St. Mary's is now in a tie for fifth place in the MAAC standings with 10 points with three conference games left on the schedule. The top six teams advance to the MAAC Championships which begin on October 29.
The Mountaineers face a tough test in their next matchup, a home game with league-leading Quinnipiac on Wednesday, October 18. Kick-off at Waldron Family Stadium is slated for 2:00 p.m.
