MOUNT STORY LINES
- Mount St. Mary's was edged by Fairfield, 63-60, on Thursday night. Dakota Leffew paced the Mount with 19 points and eight rebounds while Jalen Benjamin finished with 11 points and eight assists. The biggest lead over the final 10 minutes for either team was four points in the hard-fought affair. Down 62-60, the Mount turned the ball over with 14 seconds left, and Fairfield hit 1-of-2 at the line to make it a three-point game. Benjamin had a chance to tie from the left corner, but his step back three at the buzzer hit was off the mark. Fairfield held a 20-to-5 edge in points off turnovers in the game.
- Mount St. Mary's holds a 3-2 lead in the all-time series with Saint Peter's, including a 73-58 win at Saint Peter's on December 1st in the Mount's first-ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season game. This will be the first time the teams have played in Emmitsburg since a 71-69 Mount victory on December 10, 1977, at Memorial Gym.
- Mount St. Mary's has one of the top defenses in the MAAC. The Mount has allowed 70 points or more to just one MAAC opponent this year. In the 10 MAAC games, the Mount is holding the opposition to 62.6 points per game on 40.5 percent overall shooting.
- The Mountaineers are shooting 39.3 percent from three-point range in MAAC games this year (72-for-183).
- Dakota Leffew had 19 points and eight rebounds in the Mount's 63-60 loss to Fairfield on Thursday night. It is the 10th game in a row that Leffew has reached double figures in scoring. He has been held under 10 points just twice in 19 games played this year, back-to-back games against Saint Peter's (6) and American (0). Leffew is averaging 15.2 points over his past 10 games.
- George Tinsley found his shooting touch when the calendar flipped to 2023. Tinsley is shooting 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from three-point range in the Mount's seven games in January. The senior forward made just 3-of-30 (.100) from beyond the arc over the first 14 games of the season.Â
- Up next, the Mount has a two-game road trip beginning at Iona on Friday, February 3rd. Tip-off for that game is 7:00 p.m. The Mount then plays at Quinnipiac on Sunday, February 5, before returning home to welcome Siena to Knott Arena on Friday, February 10.
