EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 26, 2023) – The challenging January stretch for Mount St. Mary's bowling culminates this weekend in the Lone Star State. For the first time as a program, the Mount readies to participate in the Prairie View A&M Invitational.

COMPETING TEAMS
Mount St. Mary's, Prairie View A&M (hosts), McKendree, Sam Houston State, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Fairleigh Dickinson, Stephen F. Austin, Youngstown State, Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech, North Carolina A&T State

SETTING THE SCENE

The team improved to 53-31 on the showing after a positive 8-4 weekend at the Northeast Invitational last weekend. The Mount notched wins over #5 Stephen F. Austin and #7 Youngstown State in four wins out of five Friday, following it with a 2-1 bracket Sunday, defeating #10 Maryland Eastern Shore and #14 Fairleigh Dickinson. Both wins on Sunday were in come-from-behind fashion.

Barbara Hawes carried the freight on days one and two, posting a respective 20.69 Baker frame average and a 1,024 series. Trishelle Leal Uribe emerged as the leader in brackets with a 21.38 Baker average.

Prairie View's tournament punctuates a difficult January of three tournaments. Withstanding the challenges, the Mount is looking to end the month with a positive record after going 12-13 over the first two tournaments.

FORMAT

There are 11 rounds of qualifying for this weekend, allowing for a team to face each opponent once. Games are divided between five Baker games Friday, five traditional games Saturday and a sixth traditional game to begin Sunday.

Bracket play consists of two rounds after the initial 11 rounds finish. Teams are separated into three sections between 1st-4th place, 5th-8th place, and 9th-12th place.

THE FIELD

This tournament is an exclusive invitation, sent out by the host Panthers to the top 11 teams at the end of the previous season. Mount St. Mary's finished last year 11th in the final National Tenpin Coaches Association poll, meriting an invitation for the first time.

LOOKING AHEAD

Idle from competition next weekend, the Mount resumes play February 10th-12th at the James Brown Invitational, hosted by Morgan State.
