EMMITSBURG, Md. (August 5, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's baseball pitching alumnus
Jordan Geber C'21 has signed a professional free agent contract with the New York Mets.
Geber was a First Team All-NEC performer his senior year, guiding the Mountaineer pitching staff with a 3.88 ERA and 68 strikeouts over 60 1/3 innings. He held opposing batters to a .210 average that year, setting a single season record and placing himself first on the all-time career list (.253 over 169 2/3 innings). His 175 strikeouts rank fifth in program history.
After graduating in 2021, Geber spent the 2022 campaign as a fifth-year player for Virginia Tech, logging 35 innings for the Hokies. At the time of signing, he was pitching for the nearby Frederick Keys in the MLB Draft League.
This is the second Mount St. Mary's signee for the New York Mets in the past five years, joining
Patrick Causa who signed in 2019. Geber also becomes the second active Mount player in the minor leagues, with
Trey McGough in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. McGough, currently injured, competes for the Indianapolis Indians in Triple-A.
The Mount has had five players play in Major League baseball. Edward Kenna (C' 1898) was the first Mount player to play in the major leagues, playing for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1902. Joe Engel (C' 1911) spent seven seasons in the major leagues with the Washington Senators and the Cincinnati Reds while Dan Costello played for the New York Yankees in 1913 and three years with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1914-16). John Chapman played for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1924 while Ed Edelen played for the Washington Senators in 1932.
