st minute to lift Mount St. Mary's to a 1-1 draw at Robert Morris on Thursday afternoon. It is the second consecutive tie to open the 2022 season for the Mount.
Robert Morris (2-0-1) grabbed the 1-0 lead in the 50
th minute when Elisa Corvalan headed home a cross from Sheridan Reid. The Mount had a chance for the equalizer 10 minutes later, but Robert Morris goalkeeper Isabella Bohlen made a diving stop on a skipping shot from
Maevyn Jones.
The Mount (0-0-2) evened the score in the 71
st minute, taking advantage of a bad touch by a Robert Morris defender. The RMU player played a ball from the midfield back toward their own goal.
Madison Bee was able to run down the bouncing ball and finish nicely with her left foot to make it a 1-1 game.
Robert Morris held a 15-to-8 edge in shots in the game, but the Mountaineers had a 4-to-3 advantage in shots on goal. Mount St. Mary's had six corner kicks in the game compared to five for the Colonials.
Arden Lembryk had a pair of stops for the Mount while Bohlen finished with three saves for RMU.
The teams played to a scoreless draw in the opening half with Robert Morris holding an 8-to-3 shot advantage. The Colonials had a strong scoring opportunity in the 18
th minute when Lembryk made a stop that deflected to a Robert Morris player who had an open net. Mount defender
Kalli Bell was able to get over and block the shot to prevent the score.
The Mountaineers carried play in the final minutes of the first half, generating a pair of corner kicks and a free kick that resulted in a save from Robert Morris keeper Bohlen.
Mount St. Mary's returns to the pitch on Sunday with a 6:00 p.m. matchup at Towson.
