EMMITSBURG, Md. (July 8, 2022) – When the college baseball season ends, many of the players continue to hone their craft in summer leagues scattered throughout the country. Mount St. Mary's is no exception, with 20 players suiting up for teams in the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions.
The New England Collegiate Baseball League boasts the most Mountaineers with five players. Six more leagues took in Mount players – the Maryland Collegiate Baseball League, Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, Valley Baseball League, Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, New York Collegiate Baseball League, and the MLB Draft League.
Noteworthy performances so far include incoming junior
Jake Maske, leading all players in batting average with a .366 clip and a .983 OPS. Transfer
Scott Seeker and returner
Shane Wockley provide promise with averages north of .300 and good power stats. Leading base stealer
Tristan McAlister continues to swipe bags for the Mystic Schooners, with 14 over 23 games.
On the rubber,
Max Moore reached All-Star status in the Cal Ripken League thanks to a 3-0 record and 21 strikeouts across 25 2/3 innings of work.
Luke Pryor has secured a 3.07 ERA, fanning 13 batters over 14 2/3 innings.
Jason Rivera, pitching in the NYCBL, beats both Moore and Pryor in punch outs per nine with 22 over 17 2/3 innings.
Several Mountaineers linked up again as teammates in summer ball. The South County Braves in the Cal Ripken League have three, with
Danny Salisbury and incoming freshman
Jeff Davis pitching alongside Moore.
Summer leagues continue into the Dog Days of the season, progressing through the Labor Day holiday. Some players wrap up play early and prepare for the upcoming season or a potential draft by a MLB team, while others see opportunities later in the year.
