Mount St. Mary’s Bowling Looks for First NEC Title this Weekend

NORTHEAST CONFERNCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
March 24th – 26th
Hamilton, N.J. | Hamilton Lanes & Entertainment Center

NEC FRONT ROW

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 23, 2022) – In their fourth season of existence, Mount St. Mary's bowling seeks their first Northeast Conference championship at the 2022 edition of the event. Starting Thursday, five teams pursue the same goal in New Jersey.

SETTING THE SCENE

Entering as the #2 seed for the tournament, Mount St. Mary's faces #3 Duquesne in an opening round matchup. The Mount went 5-2 against the Dukes this season, including an 1180-1034 victory in the second NEC Meet. With the all-time program record at 10-10, the 21st meeting on Thursday serves as a grudge match.

The second seed in the championship came as a result of a 14-7 record, tying them with the Dukes. The 5-2 mark gave the Mountaineers the tiebreaker.

Postseason play for the Mount began two weeks ago at the USBC Intercollegiate Team Sectionals. With a third place finish in the field of 16, the team advanced to the national competition. Tamera Stanton and Rebecca Dodson qualified for the Intercollegiate Singles Championships as well.

FORMAT

The NEC Championships follow the mega match format. Teams face off in a Quint Baker and traditional set, followed by a best-of-seven should the first two rounds forge a split. The tournament is double elimination, meaning that a team must falter twice before bowing out.

THE FIELD

Sacred Heart earned the top seed and faces the winner of the play-in game between #4 Fairleigh Dickinson and #5 Long Island.

FDU is the defending champion, receiving the conference's automatic qualifier in 2021.

ADMISSION

All NEC students with proper institutional I.D. will be admitted free. All other individuals will be charged admission. Ticket prices are $10 per day for adults or $15 for a two-day pass and $5 per day for individuals 65 and older or children 11-18. Children 10 years of age and under will be admitted free.

LOOKING AHEAD

The NCAA Women's Bowling selection show airs at 4 p.m. on March 30th at NCAA.com. USBC Nationals take place the last week of April in Chicago.
