Mount Baseball Falls to Georgetown in Series Opener

Box Score EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 18, 2022) – Strong innings in the early going by the Georgetown Hoyas upended the Mount St. Mary's baseball in the opening contest of a three-game series.

The Mountaineers registered three hits on the day, two of them by pinch hitters Jake Maske and Jason Rivera. Shortstop Tyler Long added a base knock of his own. All three of the hits went for singles.

On the mound, the duo of Ryan Florio and Cooper Hoffman combined to hold the Hoyas at bay late in the game. Florio surrendered one run across two innings, while Hoffman struck out two Georgetown batters in the eighth.

Three runs by the Hoyas in the second and a seven spot in the third sealed the Friday evening game. All 10 runs came off the long ball, including a grand slam and a three-run homer.

Rivera's single drove home long in the eighth to prevent a shutout.

The series continues at home Sunday with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
