MOUNT STORY LINES
  • Mount St. Mary's saw a late rally come up just short in a 66-61 home loss to LIU on Saturday.  Trailing by 12 with 3:52 left, the Mount went on a 13-to-4 run to cut the deficit to 64-61 with possession.  On that final possession, Jaylin Gibson's three-pointer with 12 seconds left was off the mark, and LIU hit a pair of free throws late to seal the win.  Jalen Benjamin led the Mount with 13 points off the bench.  Opoku chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds while Mezie Offurum added 11 points and a team-high eight boards.
  • The Mount will be either the No. 4 or the No. 5 seed in this year's Northeast Conference Tournament.  The Mount's magic number to clinch the #4 seed and quarterfinal host duties is two, meaning any combination of Mountaineer wins or SFBK losses that totals two.  If the two teams finish with the same record and SFBK beats Bryant, the Terriers win the tiebreaker. If the two teams finish with the same record and SFBK loses to Bryant, the Mount wins the tiebreaker.
  • Mount St. Mary's rolled to a 98-59 win over Sacred Heart at Knott Arena on January 21 to take a 30-16 lead in the all-time series.  This will be the first meeting between the two teams at the Pitt Center since Sacred Heart's 61-59 win in the 2020 Northeast Conference Quarterfinals.
  • Mezie Offurum has been the Mount's leading scorer in four of the past five games.  Offurum is averaging 14.0 points over the past three games, shooting 50.0 percent (17-of-34) from the field.  Offurum has scored in double figures 14 times this season..
  • Nana Opoku and Jalen Benjamin are each closing in on 1,000 career points.  Opoku has 964 points in 111 career games with the Mountaineers.  Benjamin has a combined 960 points in 85 career games at UAB and the Mount.
  • The Mountaineers close out the regular season at Central Connecticut on Saturday, February 26. TIp-off is set at 1:00 p.m.
