EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 28, 2022) – The Buckeye State welcomes the Northeast Conference swimming & diving teams, including Mount St. Mary's, who are seeking their first conference titles.

Events run mainly Wednesday through Saturday, with the 800 freestyle relays kicking off proceedings on Tuesday evening.

ABOUT THE MOUNT

Highlights for the men's season include three straight dual meet wins against VMI, St. Francis Brooklyn and Wagner, and a runner up finish at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational. The women's team also beat VMI and took third at Franklin & Marshall.

On the NEC's top 10 performance list, 44 Mountaineers are listed. Nicholas Santorelli places second in the 200 yard freestyle, breaking his school record from a year ago. But the premier men's event is the breaststroke. The trio of Jake Wallace, Aidan Grady and Griffin Distler carry this event with numerous wins and points scored. Wallace leads the pack with a swim of 54.51 seconds last November.

The women's enter the tournament with veterans Kira Buchler and Valeria Villagran. Buchler specializes in the backstroke and Villagran the butterfly, with sophomore Dahna Yoon right behind her. Freshman Meghan Spiecher enters the mix with her performances in the freestyle.

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

Held since 1999, the women's championship has had seven various winners, led by Central Connecticut with six. The Blue Devils won three straight from 2015-17, but since then the Bryant Bulldogs have run the table with four straight titles.

This is the second annual men's tournament. Bryant also took the inaugural version last year, allowing the Rhode Island school to sweep the meet.

Last season, the Mount men finished fourth with 524 points and the women took eighth with 154 points.
