MOUNT STORY LINES
  • Mount St. Mary's hosts LIU on Saturday afternoon in a key Northeast Conference matchup.  It will be Senior Day for the Mountaineers, who will be honoring seniors Jalen Jefferson, Malik Jefferson, Mezie Offurum and Nana Opoku prior to the game.  Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
  • Mount St. Mary's was stunned by a late St. Francis Brooklyn rally in a 64-55 loss at Knott Arena on Thursday night.  The Mountaineers led 51-43 with just over six minutes remaining before the Terriers closed the game on a 21-to-4 run.  Mezie Offurum scored 15 of his team-high 17 points in the first half while Nana Opoku added 12 points and seven rebounds.  Rob Higgins scored 15 of his game-high 27 points for the Terriers during the game-winning run.  The Mount, playing without injured starters Malik Jefferson and Jalen Benjamin, led by as much as nine points in the second half.
  • Malik Jefferson needs seven rebounds to become the Mount's all-time rebound leader in the school's NCAA Division I era (since 1988-89).  Jefferson now has 740 career boards, trailing only Michael Watson (746, 1991-95) on the Mount's Division I rebound list.
  • The Mount is currently tied for fourth place in the Northeast Conference standings with Merrimack, who is not eligible for the NEC Tournament.  The top four teams in NEC regular season play get a home game in the NEC Quarterfinals.  The Mount leads St. Francis Brooklyn by two games with three to play, and has a magic number of two to clinch a home game in the NEC Tournament quarterfinal round.
  • The all-time series between LIU and the Mount is tied at 34 wins each.  LIU posted a 74-57 win over the Mount in Brooklyn on January 6.  The Mount holds a 21-12 record at home against the Sharks, and has won the past five meetings between the two teams at Knott Arena.
  • Up next, the Mountaineers head on the road for the final two games of the regular season.  The Mount visits Sacred Heart on Thursday, February 24, before closing out the regular season at Central Connecticut on Saturday, February 26.
