MOUNT STORY LINES
- Mount St. Mary's dropped a hard-fought game to Rider, 68-65, on Saturday afternoon at Knott Arena. The Mountaineers held a 62-59 lead with two minutes remaining before Rider rallied for the win. The Mount did have two chances to tie, but Jalen Benjamin and Jaylin Gibson each were off the mark on their game-tying three-point attempts. Benjamin led the Mount with 18 points while adding five rebounds. Deandre Thomas had a strong game with 14 points and seven assists with Malik Jefferson chipping in 13 points and eight boards.
- This will be the 69th all-time meeting between the Mount and American with the Eagles holding a 35-33 advantage in the series. American has won the past two matchups, including a 72-66 overtime win at Knott Arena last year. The Mountaineers are 15-12 all-time at home against the Eagles. The Mount is 25-38 all-time against Patriot League opponents.
- Mount St. Mary's has found its touch from three-point range, hitting 19-of-39 (.487) from three-point range over the past two games. The Mount hit 7-of-10 (.700) from beyond the arc in the second half of the team's 73-58 win at Saint Peter's, and followed by going 7-of-8 (.875) from three in the first half against Rider.
- Deandre Thomas has been a key contributor for the Mount of late. The 6-5 graduate student is averaging 12.5 points and 6.0 assists while shooting 6-of-12 (.500) from three-point range over the past two games. Thomas scored all 11 of his points in the second half to help the Mount to a 73-58 win at Saint Peter's. Had had 14 points and seven assists against Rider, hitting four three-pointers in the first half.
- Jalen Benjamin had 18 points and five rebounds in the Mount's loss to Rider. Benjamin is coming off a big week for the Mountaineers, averaging 23.0 points and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from three-point range in the Mount's first two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference games. Benjamin leads the team in scoring at 19.0 points per game.
