Mount Women's Soccer Downed at Niagara, 3-0

Box Score Niagara University, N.Y. (October 8, 2022)--A strong first half proved to be the difference as Mount St. Mary's fell at Niagara, 3-0, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match on Saturday afternoon.  The Purple Eagles scored three times in the opening half to secure the victory.  With the loss, the Mount drops to 2-4-6 overall and 1-3-2 in MAAC play.

The Purple Eagles (6-5-1, 3-1-1 MAAC) opened the scoring in the ninth minute to take the early lead.  Mount keeper Drew Camp came out to challenge a long ball, but saw the ball slip away to Emma Bough, who was able to slip a pass to Nikki van Wees, who tapped the ball into the empty net.

Niagara built the lead to a pair of goals in the 31st minute when Annie Ibey finished a high cross from Bough for a 2-0 lead.  The Purple Eagles added to the lead in the 39th minute when Djeynaba Thiam had a fantastic finish to the upper right corner of the goal.

The game statistics did not represent a three-goal margin as Niagara held an 11-to-7 edge in shots and just a 6-to-5 margin in shots on goal.   The Mountaineers also held a 5-to-2 edge in corner kicks and had several free kick chances in the second half as Niagara was whistled for 15 fouls in the final 45 minutes of play.

Camp finished the game with three saves while Clare Bornet (2 saves, 18:44 MP) and Agnes Stenlund (3 saves, 71:16 MP) combined for the shutout win.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Wednesday, October 12, with a 4:00 p.m. home matchup with Manhattan.
