EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 21, 2022) – With last week's dual meet against Lafayette canceled due to weather, Mount St. Mary's swimming & diving refocused to this weekend as they head to the nation's capital to battle Howard.
The meet is the first of two Saturday dual meets that wrap up the 2021-22 regular season.
ABOUT THE MOUNT
Saturday marks the resumption of the season, picking up from the Franklin & Marshall Invitational last November. The start of this season is the most successful in men's program history, with a 3-0 start in dual meets and a second place finish at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational. On the women's side, the Mountaineers posted a victory over VMI and a third place effort at Franklin & Marshall.
Nicholas Santorelli broke the school record in the 200 Free during the meet in Lancaster, winning the event with a time of 1:40.61. He was also part of the 400 Free Relay that toppled the record at the same meet, joining
Jonathan Mata,
Ryan Griffiths and
Peter Jones. The team edged the previous record of 3:07.22 with a 3:07 flat.
The Mountaineers' wins over VMI also shattered multiple meter records, which typically apply to the ARCC Swimming Pool alone.
SCOUTING THE BISON
Howard's men are having a strong campaign, boasting a 3-1 mark. The Bison logged victories over American, VMI and Long Island this season. To go along with that, they have registered a second place showing at the Potomac Relays and a fourth place finish at the H2Ounds Invitational. Like the Mount, they have also been idle since early December. The Bison women are 1-4, with their victory coming against VMI in November.
At the H2Ounds Invite, Howard broke eight school records and junior Miles Simon made the NCAA cut in the 50 freestyle.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Mount St. Mary's stands a perfect 10-0 on the women's side, while the men are 1-2, earning their win during a dual meet in 2018.
LOOKING AHEAD
The final regular season meet takes place January 29
th at Loyola in Baltimore.
