MOUNT STORY LINES
  • Behind a strong effort from Malik Jefferson and an outstanding team defensive effort, the Mount won at Merrimack, 57-50, on Monday afternoon to close out the team's four-game road trip with a 2-2 mark.  Jefferson paced the Mount with 16 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and three assists in his top performance of the 2021-22 season.  Freshman Jaylin Gibson added nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from three-point range in the win.  The Mountaineers held Merrimack to 20 second-half points that included 34.5 percent shooting overall and an 0-for-11 mark from three-point range.
  • Last year, the Mount split its two-game series with Sacred Heart at home.  The Pioneers won the first game, 61-58, on January 30 before the Mount rebounded to take game two, 76-64.  The Mountaineers hold a 29-14 lead in the all-time series with Sacred Heart, including a 16-6 record at home.
  • The Mount's game with Sacred Heart begins a key stretch in the schedule as five of the next six games are at Knott Arena.  Last year, the Mountaineers went 6-3 at home in NEC play.
  • The Mountaineers have shot the ball well from the outside in NEC play, connecting on 41.0 percent from three-point range in the team's four league games.  The Mount is 25-for-61 from three during that span.
  • The Mountaineers have picked it up on the defensive end in NEC play.  In four league games, the Mountaineers are tied for second in defensive efficiency (97.4), allowing 64.5 points per game.  The Mount is holding the opposition to 40.8 percent shooting (2nd in the NEC) and 31.8 percent from three-point range.
  • Malik Jefferson led the Mount with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting in the win over Merrimack on Monday.  It was Jefferson's first double-figure scoring effort since tallying 12 at Saint Joseph's on November 13.
  • Up next, the Mount hosts Central Connecticut on Sunday, January 23, at 2:00 p.m. at Knott Arena.
