Mount Men’s Lacrosse Announces 2022 Schedule

2022 MEN'S LACROSSE SCHEDULE

EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 13, 2022) – The Mount men's lacrosse team has announced their schedule for their 2022 season. The 14-game schedule. The Mount brings back Georgetown, UMBC, Navy, and Delaware while facing off against Hampton for the first time.
 
"I really like the way our schedule sets up with a variety of teams that are exciting and challenging, including our scrimmages against UNC and High Point," said Head Coach Tom Gravante. "We play a high-level schedule upfront such as Navy, Towson, and Georgetown so that can we can be ready for conference games in late March and April."
 
The Mountaineers open up the 2022 season with a road matchup against Navy on February 5th to kick off a three-game road trip. The Mount played Navy last year and fell 8-5 to the Midshipmen after the Mount's second-half comeback fell short. The Mount travels to Delaware on February 12th for a rematch with the Blue Hens after the Mountaineers beat the Blue Dens 10-7 last year in Emmitsburg behind a strong first half. The Mount has a quick turnaround with a game on February 15th versus Towson. The Mountaineers fell 11-5 to Towson last year in Emmitsburg behind Jake Krieger's two goals.
 
The Mount's first game at Waldron Family Stadium is against first-time opponent Hampton on February 19th. The Mount welcomes UMBC to Emmitsburg on February 25th in a rematch from last year when the Retrievers beat the Mountaineers 8-7 in overtime. The Mount travels to the nation's capital on March 1st to face off against Georgetown. The Mountaineers start a three-game homestand on March 4th against VMI. The Mount wraps up the out-of-conference schedule on March 10th against Mercer.
 
The Mount faces off against Saint Joseph's to start NEC play on March 19th. The Mountaineers lost to the Hawks 14-13 last year in overtime after Saint Joseph's scored the tying goal with six seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. The Mountaineers head to Connecticut on March 26th to face off against Sacred Heart in their first road conference game.
 
The Mount starts April by heading to Merrimack on April 2nd and returns to Waldron Family Stadium on April 9th versus LIU. The Mountaineers head to Staten Island to face off against Wagner on April 16th, who the Mount is 18-2 against all-time. The Mount's last home game is on April 23rd against Bryant, with the season's final match against Hobart in New York on April 30th.
 
Mount St. Mary's will look to rely on some familiar faces and some new faces this year. Jake Krieger returns for his senior as the team's leading scorer with 11 goals and six assists to have 17 total points. Twins Jared and Connor McMahon both return to lead the Mountaineers offense after they combined for 25 total points with 19 goals and six assists. They both ended last season on a five-game scoring streak. Junior Steven Schmitt and senior Noah Daniels lead the defense this year after causing 22 turnovers and picking up 61 ground balls last year combined.      
 
Last year, the Mount was 4-9 with a 2-5 NEC record, finishing in sixth place. The Mountaineers look to make the NEC Playoffs this season.
