EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 2, 2021) – The fifth and final day of the Northeast Conference Swimming & Diving Championships saw the Mount St. Mary's program continue to set new standards, particularly on the men's side.
Over the course of the three-day swimming event, the Mount men set 15 new school records and added on four new ones.
Day three of the event saw freshman
Jason Fitch cap off an impressive showing with a second place time of 1:49.34 in the 200 yard backstroke. The mark also stands as a new school record. Fellow freshmen
Jacob Wallace followed his victory Wednesday with a fourth place effort Thursday, securing a 2:01.63 in the 200 breaststroke.
A total of 14 men qualified for the finals, bringing the total for the tournament to 45. This included
Austin Dodd, who registered a 1:54.41 in the 200 yard butterfly to take fifth Thursday.
The women's final day highlighted
Kira Buchler, who reached a final for the second consecutive day. The junior took fourth with a 2:03.35 in the 200 yard backstroke.
Valeria Villagran secured a finals appearance in all three days, tallying a time of 53.67 seconds in the 100 freestyle.
Jordan Friedman,
Elizabeth Fahrney and
Emiley Lynch also advanced to the finals on the last day.
In the final standings, the men finished fourth with 524 points. The women scored 154 points to come in eighth place.
