EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 2, 2021) – A 1-0 lead for the Mount St. Mary's baseball team gave way to a Central Connecticut comeback, as the Blue Devils took the second game of the series 5-1 Friday in New Britain.
The Mountaineers managed seven hits, but their only multi-hit inning came in the fourth when they scored. After
Thomas Savastio and
AJ Holcomb singled, freshman
Tyler Long drove home Savastio on an RBI groundout.
CCSU took the lead in the fifth inning and never looked back, scoring three runs in the frame. The home side added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth.
Holcomb finished with two hits on the day, as did outfielder
Connor Dulin. The pitching staff recorded 10 strikeouts, split between starter
Brenden Kennedy and reliever
Bryant Shives.
Blue Devils third baseman Jay Devito led the way for CCSU, going 3-for-3 with two RBI's and a run scored.
Saturday brings the series finale, a 1 p.m. start as the Mount tries to avoid a second straight series sweep.
