Middle Innings Cost Mount St. Mary’s Against Blue Devils

EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 1, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's losing streak extended to five games Friday, as the Central Connecticut Blue Devils posted all six runs in a mid-game surge to defeat the Mountaineers, 6-2.

The top of the lineup enjoyed a successful day at the plate, led by second baseman Ryan Haddaway. The junior went 3-for-4 and drove in both of the Mount's runs. Myles Nicholson added two hits in five at-bats and scored once. Bookending in the nine hole, substitute Connor Dulin added two hits in three trips.

Starter Michael Yetter went two innings with a pair of strikeouts before exiting the contest. Reliever Ryan Ament took the loss following Yetter. Blake Beal earned two scoreless innings to close out the game.

CCSU scored the first five runs of the game, posting three runs in the fourth and a pair in the fifth. Haddaway got the Mount on the board in the sixth, bringing home Dulin with a double. A potential rally was squandered with two Mountaineers left on base.

After Haddaway sent Nicholson home with a grounder, the Mount generated one final rally in the ninth. Efrain Correa, Jr., Tyler Long and Dulin singled to load the bases, but the Blue Devils induced a strikeout to finalize the victory.

Game two of the series starts at 1 p.m. Friday (Apr. 2) at the CCSU Baseball Field.
