Arden Lembryk made six saves in her first collegiate start for the Mountaineers.
Merrimack (2-2, 1-1 NEC) broke on top with an early goal just 1:16 into the game. The Warriors earned a corner kick and took advantage of the opportunity when Nicole Langlois took the corner from Rebecca Harty and finished the play with the score. The Mount had a chance to even the score just under four minutes later, but saw
Hannah Cooksey's shot carom off the crossbar. Late in the half,
Emma Ryan had a nice scoring chance, but her shot to the lower left part of the goal went just wide.
The Warriors carried play in the second half, and got an insurance goal in the 78th minute when Bridget Austin hit a shot to the upper right corner on a feed from Molly Murnane. The Mount put pressure on in the final minutes with
Elisabeth Rockhill getting a pair of solid chances. Her shot with just over a minute left was denied by Merrimack keeper Megan Langlois, and her shot with 15 seconds left was also stopped on a nice save by Langlois.
Merrimack outshot the Mount, 25-8, in the game, including 8-to-4 in shots on goal. Rockhill led the Mount (1-2, 0-2 NEC) with three shots. Lembryk had a trio of acrobatic saves among her six stops in the contest. Langlois made four saves to earn the clean sheet for Merrimack.
The Mount returns to action next Tuesday, March 16, with a 3:00 p.m. matchup at Sacred Heart.
