Mount Women's Soccer Edged by LIU, 1-0, in Northeast Conference Opener

Brookville, N.Y. (March 2, 2021)--LIU edged Mount St. Mary's, 1-0, in the Northeast Conference opener for both teams this afternoon.  Mount goalkeeper Maggie Barron made three saves in the game.

The teams spent most of the first half getting a feel for the game as LIU held a 4-to-2 edge in shots.  The first shot of the game did not come until the 13th minute when Barron made a save on LIU's Kendra Oldroyd.  The Mount's Elisabeth Rockhill posted the Mount's first shot in the 23rd minute and freshman Alexa Dragisics sent a shot high in the 25th minute.  Barron came up with a save on a Maggie Leach shot in the 40th minute to keep the game scoreless at the half.

Barron made her third save of the game in the 53rd minute, and LIU's Tatiana Lazarraga had a shot hit off the crossbar in the 63rd minute before the Sharks (1-0) broke through with the only goal of the contest.  LIU's Sami Jablonski beat Barron in the 65th minute to put her team on top, 1-0.  The Mount was held to two shots in the second half, one wide right by Mikayla Bates in the 68th minute and another by Rockhill that was off the mark in the 80th minute.

The Mount falls to 1-1 on the season and will return to action on Tuesday, March 9, with the home opener against Merrimack.  Kick-off for the game is set for 4:00 p.m. and fans can tune in to NEC Front Row to catch the action.
