Mount St. Mary's Knocks Off Bryant for First NEC Win of the Season

Emmitsburg, Md. (March 19, 2021)--Mount St. Mary's knocked off visiting Bryant, 2-1, to earn its first Northeast Conference victory of the season on Friday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium.  Isabella Wendler and Elisabeth Rockhill each scored for the Mount in the victory.  Mount St. Mary's improves to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the NEC with the win.

On a chilly and windy afternoon, the Mountaineers struck for the first goal of the game in the 20th minute on a corner kick.  Rockhill took the kick and sent the ball into the box, finding Wendler who was able to beat Bryant goalkeeper Meghan Dalton for her third goal of the season.  Mount goalkeeper Maggie Barron kept Bryant off the scoreboard with five first-half saves.

The Mount added to its lead in the 61st minute when Lindsay Reightler received a ball at midfield and sent Rockhill streaking down the right side.  Rockhill broke in alone on Dalton and buried the shot to give the Mount a two-goal advantage.  It was Rockhill's second goal of the year.

The Bulldogs (1-3, 1-2 NEC) pulled within one in the 75th minute when Lexi Kramer scored in the middle of the box off a free kick from Chae Diana. The Mount was able to keep the Bulldogs at bay the rest of the game to earn the one-goal win.

Rockhill finished with a goal and an assist to pace the Mount offense in the game.  Bryant held a 22-to-9 advantage in shots, including an 8-to-4 edge in shots on target.  Barron finished the contest with seven saves while Dalton had a pair of saves for the Bulldogs.

The Mount improves to 6-4-2 all-time against Bryant, including 4-2-0 at home.  Ten of the 12 all-time meetings in the series have been decided by one goal with the other two ending in a draw.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Friday, March 26, with a 3:00 p.m. matchup at Sacred Heart.
