EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 18, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's bowling travels to New Jersey in hopes of becoming the third team this month to win a Northeast Conference title.
The Mount comes into the NEC Bowling Championships as the No. 5 seed and opens the tournament with the single play-in match against Long Island. Should the Mount successfully defeat the Sharks, they move on to the double elimination bracket and face Fairleigh Dickinson.
SETTING THE SCENE
Mount St. Mary's ended the regular season with a record of 36-16 and placed fifth in the bracket following a 9-12 showing against the NEC.
After clinching their spot two weeks ago, the team squared off with Daeman and Roberts Wesleyan in a non-conference tune up. The weekend provided a huge boost of momentum as the Mountaineers scored over 1,000 in five of the six games. This includes an 1,118 against Daeman, their second-highest score in program history.
THE FIELD
Fairleigh Dickinson secured the top seed in the tournament, followed by Duquesne, Sacred Heart, LIU and the Mount. The Knights took first after a 19-2 record in conference play.
FORMAT
All meetings follow the Mega Match format, consisting of a Quint Baker and traditional set, followed by a best-of-seven if the teams split the first two rounds. The lone exception is Match #7 – a best-of-seven on Championship Sunday if the winner of the first round that day comes from the loser's bracket.
