MOUNT STORY LINES
- Mount St. Mary's lost at Santa Clara, 88-77, on Tuesday night. Nana Opoku led the way with a season-high 21 points while Mezie Offurum matched his season with with 18. Dakota Leffew chipped in a solid all-around effort with 11 points, a career-high seven rebounds, and five assists. The Mount tied the score at 50-50 early in the second half, but Santa Clara used an 18-to-4 run to grab the lead for good. The Mount cut the deficit to seven in the closing minutes, but could get no closer. The Mount committed just three turnovers in the game.
- Nana Opoku scored a season-high 21 points at Santa Clara, and has now posted three consecutive games with double figure scoring. Opoku was 10-for-11 from the field against the Broncos and is now shooting a team-best 56.5 percent on the year. It was the second 20-point game of Opoku's career. He set his career high of 25 against Merrimack on Feb. 23, 2020.
- The Mountaineers had 25 assists on the team's 34 field goals at Santa Clara. For the season, the Mount has assisted on 54.2 percent of its field goals made this year, the second-best mark in the NEC and 108th in the nation.
- American holds a 34-33 lead in the all-time series with the Mount. The Eagles captured the last meeting, 82-76, on Dec. 17, 2019. That snapped the Mount's three-game win streak in the series.
- Mount St. Mary's committed just three turnovers in the 88-77 loss at Santa Clara on Tuesday. The three turnovers are tied for the fewest in a game by a Mount team since the move to NCAA Division I in 1988-89. The last time the Mount had three turnovers was against St. Francis Brooklyn on March 2, 2016. The other two times came against Central Connecticut (Feb. 7, 2015) and VMI (Dec. 29, 1989).
- The Mount was 34-for-77 from the field at Santa Clara on Tuesday night. The 77 field goal attempts were the most in a game by a Mount team since attempting 77 at Washington on Nov. 19, 2015.
