EMMITSBURG, Md. (November 16, 2021) – Redshirt junior
Aryna Taylor turned in an electrifying performance for Mount St. Mary's, but the Mountaineers fell to #3 ranked Maryland Terrapins 98-57 Tuesday evening.
Taylor shot 6-for-14 from the floor, including five treys, for a total of 21 points. That amount is her second highest as a Mountaineer, right behind the 25 she scored in the team's win over Valley Forge last Saturday.
Kendall Bresee neared a double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds, adding a team-high four assists.
As a group the Mount contended with the Terps in three-pointers. Maryland held the slight advantage, 38.9 to 37 percent, but the visitors hit more with 10 triples to seven.
Control of the game was decided early as the Maryland defense stymied the Mount offense for the first seven minutes. Fittingly, Taylor broke the ice with the first three after the Terrapins started on a 16-0 run.
Down 53-25 at half, Mount St. Mary's stepped up their challenge of the top-five Terps. Behind seven points from Bresee, and six each from
Michaela Harrison and Taylor. All five made shots came from beyond-the-arc. The quarter was tied until the final possessions when Maryland's Angel Reese hit a layup to help the home team win the third period, 21-19.
Freshmen received their opportunity to play in the last 10 minutes.
Jasmine Lindsay-Huskey led the bench with six points for a new career high.
Mount St. Mary's travels to face another NCAA tournament participant Lehigh. Tip-off from Bethlehem in set for 5 p.m. Friday (Nov. 19).
