BETHLEHEM, Pa. (November 19, 2021) – Mount St. Mary's women's basketball withstood a 10-0 run early to forge a pair of ties in the second quarter. They never managed to capture the lead and the Lehigh Mountain Hawks used a strong second half to pull away, handing the Mount a 91-72 defeat Friday.
Kendall Bresee battled all night to post 20 points while leading the team in rebounds with six and assists with five.
Michaela Harrison added 12 points, while
Jessica Tomasetti went for 4-for-5 with two triples to register 10 points.
Aryna Taylor had limited chances, but made the most of them going 3-for-4 from beyond-the-arc.
Held to 21 three-point attempts, the Mount were efficient, making 11 of them (52.4 percent). From the floor, the visitors shot 45.6 percent (26-57) but Lehigh had a better percentage with more chances (35-68, 51.5 percent).
After Lehigh stormed out on their 10-0 run, the Mountaineers worked themselves back into the contest, using five points from
Jada Lee to pull within seven by first quarter's end. Continuing to climb in the second quarter, the Mount tied it on a Harrison trey with 5:45 left. Another miniature run capped off with a step back from
Kayla Agentowicz made it 35-35 with 2:40 until halftime. But the visitors were held at bay as Lehigh took a 39-35 advantage to the locker room.
The homestanding Mountain Hawks blazed through the third period, shooting 75 percent (12-16) to instantly build the lead back to double digits. After scoring 32 points to begin the half, Lehigh tallied another 20 in the final quarter to cement the victory.
Emma Grothaus hit a career high 31 points, making 13 shots for Lehigh, and leading scorer Frannie Hottinger chipped in 26.
Mount St. Mary's gets a rematch from last season as they welcome Howard to Knott Arena Tuesday (Nov. 23). This past November, the Mount fell to the Bison 87-83 in D.C. to a team that reached the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference finals.
