EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 8, 2021) – Months after their first-ever appearances at the NCAA and USBC National Championships, Mount St. Mary's bowling returns to the lanes in their quest to return. First on the schedule is two one-day tournaments comprising the Bud Whitman Memorial in New Castle, Del., and hosted by Chestnut Hill College.
On top of this weekend's efforts in New Castle, bowlers will also travel across the Delaware River to New Jersey for a USBC Event, the EIBC #1. Outcomes at this tournament will not affect the team's official record.
SETTING THE SCENE
With the postseason run and a final record of 37-20, the Mount finished the 2020-21 season as the #12 ranked team in the nation by the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA).
This year's preseason poll has not been released yet, but the Mount anticipates a similar ranking given that almost every impact player returned for this year.
Rebecca Dodson and
Tamera Stanton received All-American status as juniors and are back to headline the team's roster again. At the ready are fellow seniors from the inaugural roster, led by starter
Danielle Milo. Joining the team in 2021-22 is freshman
Rachel Hines, crowned as Long Island's Bowler of the Year and four-time All-Star for Suffolk County, New York.
In August, the team released a challenge schedule of competition, returning to or jumping onto some of the most tenacious tournaments collegiate bowling has to offer. A full list of events can be found on the
Mount's website.
Junior
Amanda Yeung gets to enjoy a homecoming this weekend, competing minutes of her interscholastic home of A.I. duPont High School.
FORMAT
The Bud Whitman Memorial divides itself into two separate tournaments, with one day of Baker competition and a second day of traditional games. Each day consists of five rounds.
This tournament was the first the Mount ever competed in and became a marker of successes to come. The 2018 competition in Reading, Pa. saw the Mountaineers go 9-1, including a 5-0 first day and a tournament win.
THE FIELD
Six teams registered to participate in the 2021 Bud Whitman. Alongside Mount St. Mary's and the hosts Chestnut Hill are Felician, Caldwell, Kutztown and Wilmington.
The Wilmington Wildcats are the toughest challenger in the group and are well rested after sitting out the 2020-21 season due to the pandemic. At the end of the '19-20 campaign, Wilmington stood #24 in the NTCA poll.
All-time, the Mount stands 30-9 against the field. One-third of the victories were against Kutztown, while five of the nine defeats came at the hands of Wilmington.
LOOKING AHEAD

th and 17
th, Mount St. Mary's hosts the Mount Shootout at Terrace Lanes in Frederick, Maryland.
