Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Mount Women's Soccer Falls in Double Overtime to FDU, 2-1

Teaneck, N.J. (October 28, 2021)--For the second game in a row, the Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team took one of the top teams in the Northeast Conference into overtime before falling by a score of 2-1.  Madison Bee scored the tying goal for the Mount in the 59th minute.

After an uneventful first half that saw the teams head to the locker room in a scoreless tie, FDU (9-5-3, 6-2-1 NEC) broke out on top in the 49th minute on a goal from Aitana Martinez-Montoya.  On the play, Isabelle Udovic lofted a cross to the middle that Martinez-Montoya was able to chest to her feet and then volley the ball past Mount goalkeeper Arden Lembryk.

Mount St. Mary's had a chance to tie in the 58th minute, but Elisabeth Rockhill's shot from just outside the top of the box was stopped by FDU keeper Malen Nielsen.  The Mount was able to get the equalizing goal just one minute later.  Emily Streett had a free kick near midfield and she loft a perfect ball to the top of the box on the left side.  Isabella Wendler headed the kick to Bee, who knocked home a left-footed shot caromed off the inside of the right post and into the goal to even the score.  It was Bee's second goal of the year.

The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 until late in the second overtime when FDU's Naemi Hausen headed home a Briana Esteves cross for the winning tally.  The victory clinched an NEC Tournament berth for the Knights.

FDU had a 17-to-3 shot advantage in the game, including a 7-to-3 margin in shots on goal. Lembryk made five saves for the Mount in the game while Nielsen had a pair of stops for FDU.

The Mount (4-13-0, 2-7-0 NEC) closes out the 2021 season at Saint Francis U with a 1:00 p.m. game on Sunday, October 31.

NOTES:  Today's game was a makeup of the September 26 matchup between the two teams that was postponed at halftime due to inclement weather with the score tied at 0-0...SInce that game did not go the 70 minutes needed to make it an official game, the teams had to replay the whole game in today's makeup...The Mountaineers are 0-5 in overtime this season and have lost eight games by one goal.
