EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 22, 2021) – Boosted by a strong start at the New England Catholic Invitational, Mount St. Mary's swimming & diving hosts their only home meet of the season, a dual contest with VMI.
Before the start of Saturday's program, the Mount will honor seniors from both the Class of 2021 and 2022. A total of 23 student-athletes are set to be honored.
Admission to the meet is free. Spectators must abide by the university's indoor mask mandate, regardless of vaccination status.
ABOUT THE MOUNT
In Boston, the men's team propelled themselves to a third-place finish while the women placed fifth. Notable achievements included a victory by
Aidan Grady in the 100 meter breaststroke, one of many strong Mount performances in that event, and a pair of top five finishes with a win for senior
Kira Buchler.
The 2021 effort for both teams improved two spots in the standings from the 2019 event at Boston College.
SCOUTING VMI
This is the first meet in the Keydets' 2021-22 season. For the shortened 2020-21 year, the men's team went 4-1 and the women's team went 2-3. VMI is led by alumnus Col. Tom Timmes, who served as a diving coach for several seasons before taking the reins this year.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Mount St. Mary's women are a perfect 16-0 all-time against VMI, adding a 187-86 victory last March. The men come in 1-6 versus the Keydets, earning their triumph in 2017.
LOOKING AHEAD
Dual meets on the road against St. Francis Brooklyn and Wagner round out the month of October.
