Men's Basketball Hosts Sacred Heart This Weekend

Mount St. Mary's returns to Knott Arena to host Sacred Heart in a pair of Northeast Conference games this weekend.  The Mount and Sacred Heart are virtually tied for fourth in the standings with the top four teams earning a spot in this year's NEC Tournament. 

Mount Update:  Mount St. Mary's is coming off a split of its Northeast Conference series at Central Connecticut last week.  The Mount split its Northeast Conference series at Central Connecticut last week.  On Thursday, Damian Chong Qui scored 17 of his game-high 20 points in the second half to propel the Mount to a 67-57 victory.  On Friday afternoon, the Mount rallied from a nine-point second-half deficit to take a 64-62 lead on a Chong Qui three-pointer with 26.0 seconds left.  The Blue Devils countered with a Nigel Scantelbury triple with 4.0 seconds to eek out a 65-64 win.  Chong Qui scored a career-high 30 points for the Mount.
 
Sacred Heart Update:  Sacred Heart is 5-5 overall and 5-4 in the Northeast Conference after splitting a pair of games with Saint Francis U last week.  The Pioneers fell to the Red Flash, 76-58, in the opening game before earning an 82-70 victory in the rematch.  Sacred Heart has split all four of its two-game NEC series, dropping the opening game all four times and then responding with a win the following day.  Tyler Thomas leads Sacred Heart in scoring at 20.1 points per game while adding 5.4 rebounds.  Aaron Clark is also in double figures at 12.4 points per contest.  Cantavio Dutreil is averaging 10.0 rebounds.
 
The All-Time Series:  The Mount owns a 28-13 advantage in the all-time series, including a 15-5 mark at Knott Arena. The Mount lost both matchups with Sacred Heart last year with both games being played at Sacred Heart.  During the regular season, the Mount fell, 58-53, to the Pioneers before being edged, 61-59, in the NEC Quarterfinals.
 
Chong Qui Collects NEC Player of the Week Honors Again:  Damian Chong Qui was named the Northeast Conference Co-Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after averaging 25.5 points and 5.5 assists in the Mount's split at Central Connecticut.  Chong Qui poured in a career high 30 points in the 65-64 loss last Friday.  He tallied a game-high 20 points the previous day in the Mount's 67-57 win over the Blue Devils.

Double-Doubles:  Malik Jefferson posted his eighth career double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds in the 65-64 loss at CCSU.  He is tied with Kelly Beidler and Gregory Graves for the seventh-most career double-doubles since the Mount moved to NCAA Division I in 1988-89.
 
Up Next:  The Mount heads to NEC-leading Bryant next week for a two-game series on February 4-5.  Tip-off for both games is slated for 4:00 p.m.
