Fourth Inning Costs Mount Baseball on Opening Day

Box Score

EMMITSBURG, Md. (Feb. 21, 2020) - Mount St. Mary's baseball fell victim to a gigantic fourth inning rally by the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, ultimately falling 12-3 at E.T. Straw Family Stadium Friday. The Bonnies eliminated an early 2-0 Mountaineers lead with a nine spot in the fourth.

Thomas Bramley and Vaughn Parker II had multi-hit games for the Mountaineers (0-1), and the duo earned the team's two RBI's on the day. Bramley hit a solo shot in the fifth. As a team, they showed patience at the plate, matching their walk total with their hit total at eight.

On the mound, Michael Yetter held Bonaventure off the board for three innings before surrending five runs in the fourth. He was saddled with the loss in his return from injury. Newcomers Luke Pryor and Derek Huff stymied the Bonnies for the final 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

For St. Bonaventure (1-0), their 4-5-6 tandem of Tyler Kelder, Matthew Williams and Kevin Higgins combined for 7-for-16 at the dish with six RBI's and six runs scored. Michael Krauza got the win following 3 1/3 innings in relief.

Parker started the scoring for the Mountaineers in his first at-bat since returning from injury, driving in Ryan Fisher with a double that just found its way in fair territory. In the third, Myles Nicholson increaed the lead to 2-0 after an error by the Bonnies.

The tide turned in the fourth inning, sparked by a Kedler homer. An error by the Mountaineers thwarted a double play possibility, and the Bonnies took advantage. Back-to-back doubles later than inning turned the contest into a runaway, and the visiting side tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth.

Games two and three of the series will commence Saturday (Feb. 22) with a doubleheader. An 11 a.m. first pitch is on deck.
