Emmitsburg, Md. (April 28, 2018)—Alex Kriss went 4-for-4 with three doubles, a home run and three RBI to pace Mount St. Mary's to a 7-0 win over Sacred Heart on Saturday afternoon at E.T. Straw Family Stadium on campus.  Michael Yetter, Jordan Geber and Noah Smith combined to toss a five-hit shutout.

The Mountaineers have won each of the first two games of the series by identical 7-0 scores.  It is the first time since the Mount has moved to NCAA Division I that the team has recorded back-to-back shutouts.

The Mount (15-23, 9-10 NEC) scored at least one run in six of the first seven innings to take control of the game.  The Mountaineers took a 1-0 lead in the first when Kriss doubled with one out, moved to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on Vaughn Parker's RBI groundout.

Another Kriss double in the third helped the Mount take a 2-0 lead.  Kriss doubled to left moving Jared Urban to third base, and a Sacred Heart error allowed Urban to score, giving the Mount a two-run lead.

Brendan Dabagian's triple to right center field brought home Zack Costello for a 3-0 lead in the fourth.  Parker led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run, a laser to left to make it 4-0.  Kriss added a solo home run to left to lead off the sixth to push the Mount's lead to five.

The Pioneers (10-26, 5-10 NEC) loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but Jordan Geber got out of the jam with a flyout to right to preserve the Mount's 5-0 lead.

The Mountaineers then added to the advantage in the bottom of the frame when Kriss belted a two-run double to left to make it 7-0.

Costello went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored while Parker was 1-for-3 with two RBI in the win.  Yetter held Sacred Heart to just three hits while striking out six in six innings of work to improve to 2-2 on the year.  Geber struck out three in a scoreless seventh, and Smith finished the game with two scoreless frames.

The game featured a one hour, 34-minute rain delay that came after the bottom of the seventh was completed.  The teams were scheduled to play two today, but due to the rain delay, the four-game series will conclude with a doubleheader tomorrow.  The twinbill will start at 11:30 a.m. and will feature a seven-inning game followed by a nine-inning contest.

NOTES:  Urban made a fantastic play in the top of the third to keep Sacred Heart off the scoreboard.  With runners on second and third with two outs, Urban chased down a Jake Frasca drive to the left-center field gap, and caught the ball as he crashed into the fence for the final out of the inning.
