COMPLETE RESULTS
Emmitsburg, Md. (September 1, 2017)--Nicolas Fransham finished in 10th place to pace the Mount St. Mary's cross country teams in the season-opening Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals held on campus on Friday afternoon. Clarke Hooper was the top finisher for the women's team. The meet was scored in a dual-scoring format with each school receiving a dual-meet score against each of the other opponents.
On the men's side, American took home first place with a perfect 4-0 record at the meet, followed by George Washington (3-1), UMBC (2-2), the Mount (1-3) and Franklin Pierce (0-4). American's Benjamin Doiron took home first place at the meet, finishing the five-kilometer course in a time of 15:16.55. It is the eighth consecutive year that a runner from American has won the meet.
Fransham, who earned All-Northeast Conference honors last season, led the Mount with a 10th-place finish, completing the course in a time of 15:41.79. Freshman Isaac Kole had a strong debut for the Mount, finishing 15th overall with a time of 15:51.49. Chris Evans finished 25th (16:15.14), Mitchel Wileczek 32nd (16:26.04) and Benjamin Finnigan 39th (16:31.74) to round out the Mount's top five runners.
For the women, Navy captured first place with a 6-0 record. It is the sixth time in the 13-year history of the Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals that the Midshipmen have finished in first place. George Washington and American tied for second with a 4-1-1 record, followed by Maryland (3-3), UMBC (2-4), Franklin Pierce (1-5) and Mount St. Mary's (0-6). Navy's Claire Ostrowski garnered individual honors by finishing the five-kilometer course in a time of 17:57.91.
Hooper was the Mount's top finisher for the women, finishing 58th with a time of 20:00.73. Ashleigh Kocher (63rd, 20:12.16), Alexandra Kay (67th, 20:27.20), Adria Pirozzi (70th, 20:38.38) and Hailey Johnson (77th, 21:47.52) rounded out the top five for the Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers return to action at the Notre Dame National Catholic Cross Country Invitational on September 15.
