Mount St. Mary's Baseball Falls to Wagner in Season Finale

Box Score

Emmitsburg, Md. (May 20, 2017) – The Mount St. Mary's University baseball team dropped a 7-3 decision to Wagner on Saturday afternoon at E.T. Straw Family Stadium in the regular season finale.

Prior the game, Mount St. Mary's honored seniors Zach Call, Will Enrico, Zach Hostetter, Jordan Lawson, Josh Lenig, Tyler Post and Seth Schubert with a ceremony to recognize their contributions to the program and university throughout their time at the Mount.

Anthony Godino led off the contest with a solo shot to left field on the first pitch he saw to stake the Seahawks out to the early advantage.

Wagner added two more runs in the top of the fourth on a Freddy Sabido sac fly and an RBI single to left from Joe Silvestrone to extend its lead to 3-0.

Mount St. Mary's erased the deficit on one swing in the bottom of the fifth inning as Alex Kriss drove a homer to left field, scoring Zach Hostetter and Vaughn Parker II, to knot the game up at 3-3.

In the top of the seventh with two runners on, Godino stroked a liner to center that beat centerfielder Jared Urban as his feet got tangled trying to go back on the ball. The triple scored a pair of runs, and Godino also crossed the plate on a throwing error on the relay from Kriss.

Wagner added an insurance run in the eighth as Anthony Pecora scored on a wild pitch, extending the Seahawks lead to 7-3.

Tyler Post and Parker both reached base safely in the bottom half of the ninth, but Wagner lefty Neil Abbatiello was able to induce a fielder's choice from Brendan Dabagian to close out the 7-3 victory.

Abbatiello went the distance in his complete game effort, striking out five while yielding three earned runs.

For the Mount, lefty Jordan Lawson worked 8.1 innings, striking out six and allowing five earned.

Godino led the way for the Seahawks with a 3-for-5 day with a pair of runs and three RBI. Pecora chipped in with two hits in four at bats and one run scored.

Kriss went 1-for-3 on the afternoon with three RBIs on his homer, and Parker was the other Mountaineer with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 at the dish.
